Langley Rivermen battle Victoria Grizzlies to double OT deadlock

Max Kaufman scored a pair and continues to set the pace offensively, for Langley's junior A hockey team.

The Langley Rivermen worked double overtime in Chilliwack on Saturday, and had a point to show for it.

The Rivermen tied the Victoria Grizzlies 3-3 in double OT during the 2016 Bauer BCHL Showcase at Chilliwack’s Prospera Centre.

Max Kaufman scored twice in the opening period while Nickolas Trenciansky made 37 saves for the Rivermen.

The Grizzlies led 3-2 after the first period and after a scoreless second frame, Langley defenceman Zachary Bleuler tied the game at 3-3 at the 4:19 mark of the third period.

Penticton Vees 6, Rivermen 4

The Vees scored four times in the third period to pull away from the ’Men at the Prospera Centre Thursday.

The Rivermen led 2-0 after the first period and 3-1 at one point of the middle frame.

In the third period, the Vees scored three unanswered goals to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 lead.

After Kaufman scored to narrow the gap to 5-4, the Vees’ Owen Sillinger tallied an empty net goal with 56 seconds remaining to seal the win.

The goal completed Sillinger’s hat trick.

Zac Masson, Ryan Barrow, and Cooper Leitch also scored for the Rivermen. Kaufman led the way offensively with a goal and two assists.

The Rivermen wrap up the Showcase Wednesday when they take on the Chiefs at Prospera, starting at 7 p.m.

ICE CHIPS: Kaufman leads the Rivermen with five goals and four assists in five games. His nine points puts him tied with five other players for fourth in BCHL scoring.
