A senior curler out of Langley, and his team, will represent B.C. in the nationals in mid-March.
Team [Craig] Lepine, not to be confused with his wife Karen’s team by the same name, is heading to New Brunswick in a few weeks following a victory this weekend at the B.C. Senior Curling Championships in Duncan.
Team Lepine, which also has members from Vancouver and Penticton curling clubs, features Surrey-based skip Craig Lepine who calls Langley Curling Centre his home base.
Going up against seven other teams, Team Lepine went undefeated this past weekend, capturing the BC title, and earning themselves a spot on the ice for the 2017 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships, running March 18 through 25.
Lepine was accompanied by Stan Walker [third] of Vancouver, Craig McLeod [second] from Penticton, and Mike Pelech [lead] of Surrey, and the men were coached by 2015 senior Canadian champ Karen Lepine.
Tardi en route home
The young Langley-based curlers from Team Tardi were knocked out of the running in the VoIP Defender World Junior Curling Championships this past week.
When the dust settled after a full week of play in Korea, the host team won the men’s competition, followed in second place by the U.S., with bronze going to Norway. The local boys, making up Team Canada, came fifth, after Scotland.
Team Tardi [known in competition in Korea as Team Canada] was represented by Cloverdale skip Tyler Tardi, his older brother Jordan [second] Burnaby’s Sterling Middleton [third], Langley’s Nicholas Meister [lead], and alternate Nicholas Rabi.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in making the 2017 VoIP Defender World Junior Curling Championships in Gangneung, South Korea such a huge success,” the team posted on their Facebook page, listing off accolades for their fan club on site, other teams, event volunteers, staff, and organizers, their sponsors, coach, and curling clubs.
“Thank you for the unconditional support,” they scribed.
