Langley Stampeders end season with win

Langley's midget squad plays a sudden-death playoff game at home versus Chilliwack on Sunday.

Langley Minor Football’s midget 12-man team, the Stampeders, wrapped up its 2015 season on a winning note by blanking the White Rock Titans 23-0  Sunday at McLeod Athletic Park.

After a close first half, the Stampeders took after the break.

The first quarter highlight was a six-play Langley march starting on their 54-yard line, which ended with Mustafa Al-Mashhadani booting a field goal to give the Stamps a 3-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

The second quarter saw the teams battle it out on the gridiron with neither defence yielding any points.

In the third quarter Langley took the ball over on the Titans’ 51-yard line. Six plays later, Nathan Murray reached the end zone for a touchdown.

The Stampeders defence then got the ball back for the offence on the Titans’ 36.

The offence responded with quick toss to Devin Dacosta for the second Langley touchdown. The point after attempt was blocked by White Rock.

Near the end of the quarter Kyle Clarot intercepted a Titan pass, giving the Stamps a shot from the Titan 47-yard marker.

Riley Carter hauled in a 17-yard pass for Langley’s third major of the quarter.

There was no scoring in the fourth quarter as Langley cruised to victory.

The Stamps finished with a 9-1 record during the regular season, their only defeat coming at the hands of the first place North Surrey Bears.

Langley’s midgets will play their playoff semifinal this Sunday, Nov. 29 at McLeod Stadium against the Chilliwack Giants.
