Langley swimmers get best times, podium finishes

Local swimmers competed at the UBC Aquatic Centre in a swim meet.

Members of the Langley Olympians Swim Club competed in the Jessica Deglau Invitational Swim Meet at the UBC Aquatic Centre last Saturday and Sunday.

The Olympians were one out of 14 teams entered in the meet, and with 27 swimmers, they placed in 29 events.

Madison Belgica came first in all six of her final events this weekend.

She placed first in the Women’s 11 and under 200m Individual Medley with an improved time of 2:42.48, the Women’s 11 & under 200m Butterfly with a time of 2:57.90, the Women’s 11 and under 200m Backstroke with an improved time of 2:47.48, the Women’s 11 and under 100m Butterfly with an improved time of 1:14.21, the Women’s 11 and under 200m Freestyle with an improved time of 2:28.18 and in the Women’s 11 and under 400m Individual Medley with an improved time of 5:47.87

Dylan Thomas placed first in three of his final events. He placed first in the Men’s 13 – 14 400m Freestyle with a best time of 4:36.23, the Men’s 13 – 14 200m Breaststroke with a best time of 2:39.84 and the Men’s 13 – 14 200m Freestyle with a best time of 2:11.12.

Sophia Adrain placed in three of her final events. She placed first in the Women’s 14 and over 200m Butterfly with an improved time of 2:39.03 and the Women’s 14 and over 400m Individual Medley with a time of 5:30.06. She also came second in the Women’s 14 and over 400m Freestyle with a time of 4:50.25.

Ayush Kaul placed in three final events this weekend. He placed first in the Men’s 15 and over 200m Butterfly with a best time of 2:22.24 and in the Men’s 15 and over 200m Backstroke with a time of 2:28.41.

Tyler Friesen placed first in two events this weekend. He placed first in the Men’s 12 and under 400m Freestyle and has a personal best time 4:50.24 and Men’s 12 and under 200m Freestyle with a personal best time of 2:19.90

Gracie Maryschak placed first in two events this weekend. She placed first in the Women’s 12 and under 100m Breaststroke with a best time of 1:22.41 and made the cut for the Western Canadian Championships in this event. She also placed first in the Women’s 12 and under 200m Breaststroke with a best time of 2:54.36.

John Kim placed in two final events. He placed first in the Men’s 15 and over 400m Individual Medley with a best time of 5:21.35 and second in the Men’s 15 and over 200m Backstroke with a best time of 2:32.31.

Adam Schmidt placed second in two events. He placed second in the Men’s 15 and over 400m Freestyle with a best time of 4:33.32 and the Men’s 15 and over 200m Freestyle with a best time of 2:09.17.

Sienna Harder swam 100 per cent best times in all of her prelim and final events this weekend. She also placed second in the Women’s 11 and under 200m Breaststroke with a best time of 3:20.62.

Katelyn Schroeder placed first in the Women’s 12-13 100m Backstroke with a best time of 1:10.47 and made the cut for Westerns and Canadian Junior’s in the 100m Backstroke and, also made the cut for Westerns in the 200m Backstroke with a time of 2:38.38.

Luke Steward-Beinder placed third in the Men’s 13 – 14 400m Freestyle with a best time of 4:41.82. He also swam 100 per cent best times in all his final events.

Emily Manley placed second in the Women’s 14 and over 100m Freestyle with a time of 1:03.58.

Pearl Schramm placed third in the Women’s 14 and over 200m Breaststroke with a time of 3:00.06.

Milana Solar placed third in the Women’s 14 and over 200m Backstroke with a best time of 2:41.38

Danika Bedard placed in the top eight in all four of her final events and also had best times all of her final events. Danika also qualified for Tier 2 in the 50m and 400m freestyle.

George Matheos qualified for Tier 2 in the 400m Freestyle with a best time of 4:54.29.
