Langley teen one step from Team BC

Langley's Danika Pasqua faces one more evaluation camp in hopes of landing roster spot for U18 women's Canadian national hockey championships

If all goes according to plan, Danika Pasqua will be off to Quebec this fall.

The 17-year-old from Langley was one of 26 players short-listed by Team BC as the coaching staff looks to finalize their squad for the 2017 national women’s U18 hockey championships.

Pasqua is a forward for the Pacific Steelers of the Junior Women’s Hockey League.

The short list was released on July 26.

Pasqua will attend one final evaluation camp, Sept. 28 to Oct. 1, in Vancouver, and after that, the coaching staff will announce the final roster.

That team will compete against seven other regional teams Nov. 1 to 5 at the 2017 national women’s U18 championships in Quebec City, Que.

“This year we saw an incredible group of talented, strong players from around BC and the Yukon, making it a tough decision to narrow the field to 26 players,” said Whitney Juszkiewicz, the co-ordinator for the BC Hockey Program of Excellence.

“We congratulate all the players that have moved forward in the Team BC selection process and look forward to working with them as we prepare to compete in Quebec City.”

Pasqua has verbally committed to the University of Connecticut women’s hockey team for the 2018/19 season, once she graduates from Walnut Grove Secondary.
