Leduc, Alta., here come the Warriors.
The Langley Warriors are heading to Leduc, carrying the B.C. banner at the 2016 Presidents’ Cup national senior B box lacrosse championships, running Aug. 28 to Sept. 4
The Warriors are the 2016 West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association and provincial senior B champions after sweeping the reigning champion Nanaimo Timbermen in three straight games in their best-of-five league final series.
The Warriors completed the sweep Aug. 11 at the Langley Events Centre, where they built a 5-0 lead in the first 14 minutes before cruising to a 10-4 victory over the T-Men to clinch the title.
In what turned out to be the decisive third game, the Warriors outshot the Timbermen 62-38.
Derek Lowe led the Warriors with three goals and three helpers while Bryan Poole notched five assists.
Tye Belanger stopped 23 of 25 shots over the first two periods, with Ryley Brown turning aside 11 of 13 shots in relief.
The title series belonged to the Warriors, who were fresh off a three-game sweep of the North Shore Indians in their best-of-five semifinal series.
In the championship set, the Warriors took the opening game by a score of 7-4 at the LEC, then travelled to Nanaimo, where they won game two by a 6-3 count.
The Warriors, who have called Langley home since 2009, finished the regular season with a league-best 11-2 record.
They’ll be joining the St. Albert Miners, Calgary Mountaineers, and Saskatoon Brewers at the Presidents’ Cup tournament.
