Trinity Western University defenceman Ryan Bakken was named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League’s Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 25.
The Langley native keyed a strong Spartans effort at both ends of the ice on Friday, picking up two points and helping to shut down Victoria’s offensive attack in a 3-1 home ice win.
With the Vikes up 1-0 late in the first period, Bakken set up PJ Buys for the equalizer with 1:22 remaining in the frame, before scoring himself on a second period power-play that pushed the TWU lead to two.
The former Langley Rivermen captain also helped limit the Vikes to a season-low 20 shots on goal and was named the game’s first star.
Runners up for this week’s award include Simon Fraser University forward Jono Ceci, Selkirk College forward Dallas Calvin, and University of Victoria forward Carsen Willans.
