Aislinn Konig is wearing the red and white for Canada.
The 18-year-old from Langley has made the final roster for Canada’s U18 women’s national basketball team.
“It is always an honour to represent your country. Having Canada printed across your chest is a very special feeling,” Konig said.
“I am excited to play with this teams of talented players and coaches and I hope we can make Canada proud.”
“The selection process was competitive again this year,” said Denise Dignard, the director of women’s high performance for Canada Basketball.
“We look forward to seeing these athletes grow in the international context against the top athletes from other nations in our zone.”
Konig, a five-foot-nine point guard, is the most decorated high school basketball player to come out of B.C.
She graduated from Brookswood Secondary this past year after helping the Bobcats win three consecutive B.C. 3A senior girls provincial titles, earning most valuable player honours each time — the first player in the history of the tournament to do so.
Konig is also attending North Carolina State on scholarship where she will play for the Wolfpack.
The team finishes training camp on July 8 and they then departs for Valdiva, Chile and the FIBA Americas U18 women’s championships. They run July 13 to 17.
Canada is currently ranked fourth in the FIBA youth girls rankings.
