Vancouver Football Club is hosting a game at Willoughby Stadium that has a new fundraising aspect to it.

The Langley-based pro soccer team is helping fundraiser for babies in need tonight (Friday, July 7) while also taking on the visiting Halifax Wanderers.

At the 7 p.m. game tonight, VFC is presenting a country-themed night in conjunction with JR Country and the Basics for Babies charity, and in doing so will be collecting donations for babies – such as diapers, formula, baby food, and even pacifiers. One lucky donor winning a VFC gift package complete with game passes and team swag.

The country-themed, family-fun activities will be happening all around the stadium, including inflatable children’s games, farm animal balloons, facepainting, and even a mechanical bull, said VFC marketing vice-president Stephanie Wood.

“We are so excited to give fans a great overall experience at VFC matches and hosting theme nights such as Country Night is one way we are doing that,” she said. “There are going to be amazing activities for people of all ages to enjoy and we are proud to provide affordable options for families to have a fun, memorable experience together.”

Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with kickoff at 7 p.m.

In addition to country-themed activities, Vancouver FC will also host live country music before the game. Reigning award winner of the BC Country Music Awards (BCCMA)’s emerging artist award, Danielle Ryan, is set to perform at the north end of the stadium, while at the south end, the 2022 BCCMA group of the year nominee, Tanner Olsen Band, will be bringing country tunes to get guest two-stepping.

Langley’s own renowned country singer, Karen Lee Batten, will also be performing a live halftime show right on the pitch. And the eight-time BCCMA female artist of the year will also begin the match by singing Canada’s national anthem.

Vancouver FC is bringing the country to the pitch tonight with tickets starting as low as $25 for adults and $15 for youth. All tickets can still be purchased through this link, online at vancouverfc.canpl.ca, or in person at Gate 1 of the Langley Event Centre.
