Last weekend saw the Clearwater bantam Ice Hawks host a seven-team hockey tournament at the North Thompson Sportsplex.
The teams on the ice were Abbotsford Hawks, Kamloops, Quesnel Thunder, Vernon, Williams Lake Coyotes and Williams Lake Red Monkeys alongside the Clearwater bantam Ice Hawks. Each team played a total of four regular games and the top two teams had a final playoff on Jan. 12 at 1:30 p.m.
The morning of Jan. 12 saw an early start at 6:30 a.m. for the first game. Clearwater finished their regular play with a 3-1 record. Scores for the weekend were 4/6 against Kamloops, 5/1 against the Williams Lake Coyotes, 11/2 against the Williams Lake Red Monkeys …and 5/0 against the Abbotsford Hawks.
This put them in the final game against Kamloops. Being bested by Kamloops in the early play still only gave them each an equal standing going into the final game. A tough match no matter what.
The Clearwater Ice Hawks did not come out victorious in a disappointing 6/0 however showed some great teamwork and drive out there.
Featured player this week is Kylie Fischer. She is number 17 for the Clearwater bantam Icehawks. Fischer plays defense and has been playing since she was a pre-novice player. She loves the game of hockey and enjoys playing with her friends. She also enjoys the competitive edge that playing with a mixed team brings to the game.
Her favourite team is the Pittsburg Penguins and her favourite NHL player is Carey Price from the Montreal Canadiens.
