The Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club is just rolling along.

July 28-29 was the Mens and Ladies Triples in Parksville.  Two men’s teams and one ladies’ team did the miles and all three came home in the money.

The Left Handed Green Machine of Vern Greenhill, Rick Quibell and Archie Harris won the men’s side, defeating Parksville’s own Arthur Ferguson in the final, for big bucks.

Peter Harding, Dan Bereza and Henri Saucier won the D event, for the return of their entry fee. Pat Cutt, Irene Whitehouse and Melie Ursulom won their afternoon games both days to receive a small return on their investment. I think they were third in B event. That’s what happens when you bat only .500 – winning two and losing two.

On the home scene, the Mixed Pairs and second half of the Wednesday Night League have just completed their second night of competition so results haven’t yet been posted.

Friday Aggregate still has Dean Penny leading the way.  I see that the 2-4-2 on Thursday afternoon has an aggregate scoring system as well, so will study that for next week.

The Webber Singles has Melie Ursulom showing wins on seven games for 14 points,  Archie Harris and Vern Greenhill have six games with wins for 12 points,  and showing the odd loss and either six or seven games in hand are Dean Penny, Pat Cutt, Bill Whitehouse, and April Gilchrist with 10 points.

This could get really interesting as these leaders face each other in the coming weeks. As the players do two games each Thursday evening,  sometimes they play two games and sometimes they mark one game and play one game, so the numbers of games played are not always even until the end of the schedule. There is also the option of playing the games at another time if life should interfere on Thursdays.

Monday is BC Day, so there are special events planned at the club. Only one team is travelling: Pat Cutt, Melie Ursulom and Mike Kearns will take part in the Bowls BC Cash tournament in Qualicum on Aug. 4-5. Possibility of a second team going, but don’t know at this time.

Enjoy the sun.
