Lawn bowling in Nanaimo

First of the major open tournaments for Vancouver Island North and Powell River’s avid lawn bowling community.

Hot and sunny weather was the order of the day for the first of the major open tournaments for Vancouver Island North and Powell River’s avid lawn bowling community.

According to Parksville Curling Club’s Carol Bucyk, 30 teams vied for both the coveted Janet and Derek Shandley Mixed Triples trophy and prize money in Nanaimo May 4-5 with the  event drewing bowlers from up and down the Island.

PCC was well represented as four of the top six teams hailed from the local club.

The winning teams were:  Skip(S), Third(T) and Lead(L)

First Place:  Vern Hagstrom (S) Keith McMann (T) and Anne Ashdown (L) NLBC

Second:  Stu MacNaughton (S), Jim Muir (T) and Jan MacNaughton (L) PLBC

Third: Rick Quibell (S) Vern Greenhill (T) and Mary Mulligan (L) NLBC/CLBC

Fourth: Duncan Burke(S) Sandi Mitchell(T) and Butch Mitchell(L)  PLBC

Fifth: Kate Wilson(S),  Ryan Uchman (T)Scott Prior/Frankie Stemler (L) PLBC

Sixth: Ken Bucyk(S), Rick Dolley(T) and Carol Bucyk (L) PLBC
