The Comox Community Centre offers a program for those 50 years and older to learn how to use the outdoor fitness equipment at Anderton Park in Comox.
Outdoor fitness parks are one the biggest health and wellness trends but not everyone may know how to use the equipment. This program is an affordable way to get guided, hands-on experience and learning from a certified fitness instructor.
“Comox is fortunate to have such a popular and award-winning fitness centre,” says recreation director Mandy Johns, “but for those who may have difficulty getting to the Community Centre or prefer to exercise outside we also offer the outdoor Fitness Park.”
The Fitness Park opened last year to rave reviews. Equipment includes an elliptical, upper and lower body exercise stations and mobility stations.
Comox Community Centre fitness instructor Jill Nelson will instruct the program. “It’s perfect for anyone who wants to learn to use the equipment and improve general health and fitness,” she says.
Nelson is an experienced, sensitive and patient instructor who has a dedicated following at the Community Centre who value her ability to modify exercises to various fitness and activity levels. “You should dress for the weather but in clothes that are comfortable for exercise and be able to walk independently,” Nelson advised.
The cost is $15 to join Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-10 a.m., June 2-18. Pre-registration is required. Call the Community Centre at 250-339-2255 to secure your spot or for more information.
