Led by Carolyn Lee’s third-place finish in individual play, the UBC Okanagan Heat women’s golf team claimed the bronze medal at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championships in Quebec.
In a rain-shortened event, Lee, a Calgary native, shot 78-80 (158) in the first two rounds before the third round on Friday was cancelled.
UBCO teammate Emily Adams tied for 10th place with a 167-total (83-84) while Jessica Kozak, from West Kelowna, shot 96 and 99.
In team competition, the Heat’s 325 total was just two shots back of Fraser Valley for second place overall. The host Champlain St. Lawrence Lions took top spot with a 314 score.
The Heat has won four national medals in the past six years.
Lee, who was also selected to the tournament’s all-star team, was disappointed her team didn’t get a chance to play the final round but was still happy with the final result.
“We would have loved to play (Friday) so that we could try to close the two strokes gap,” Lee said. “I’m still really proud of our accomplishments as a team and as the conditions were tough.”
Meanwhile, Fraser Valley’s Jen Woods, a native of Kelowna and former UBCO Heat member, placed sixth overall in the individual event with a 160 total.
