The Surrey Rebels outlasted the Victoria-Esquimalt Eagles 7-5 in the Subway B.C. Box Lacrosse Association Bantam A2 Championships final Sunday at Prospera Place.
The Peninsula Warriors of Sidney stopped the North Okanagan Everton Ridge Homes Legends 8-3 in the bronze-medal game Sunday at Memorial Arena.
A total of 30 teams, including two from Kelowna, competed in four divisions at Memorial Arena, Prospera Place and Kal Tire Place in Vernon.
Captain Caden Colmorgen, Griffin Evans and Brandon Matvenko scored for the Legends Sunday.
Griffin and Liam Cyr, both set up by goalie Troy Cuzzetto, handled the offence in a 7-2 semifinal loss to Victoria-Esqumalt.
In preliminary play Saturday, Casey Sherriff’s Legends iced Peninsula 6-5 and stopped Coquitlam 6-3. Kaden Doughty bagged hat tricks in both wins.
Griffin, Zack Gares and Jacob Brewer supplied the other goals versus Peninsula, while Gares, Kael Black and Colmorgen added snipes against the A’s.
There were four divisions of play, with Ridge Meadows winning the A1 provincial title, Shuswap winning the B, and Vanderhoof taking the C.
The Warrior Sports Canada MVP award for Bantam A2 went to Ryder Bremner of Surrey.
The Bantam A2 All-Star awards went to Colmorgen, Marcello Mannarino of the Coquitlam Adanacs, Justin Charlton of the Kelowna Kodiaks, Kirk Bothwell of the New Westminster Salmonbellies, Shaun Davison of the Warriors, Cameron Ickert of the Ridge Meadows Burrards, Bremner and Bryan Toth of the Eagles. Evans won a Bantam A2 Warrior Fair Play award along with Jeremy Schmidt of Coquitlam, Remy Aquilon of Kelowna, Declan McLean of New West, Sawyer Ingham of Peninsula, Jaxon Brandt of the Burrards and Keenan Martin of Surrey.
