Carter Brett ran for three touchdowns and Mark Filko led a stingy defence with two interceptions as the Oceanside Lions peewee football team remained unbeaten with a 40-0 win over the Cowichan Bulldogs at Jack Bagley Park in Nanoose Bay Sunday, May 7.
The Lions improved to 6-0 in Vancouver Island spring league play and remained in a tie for the top spot in the league standings going into this weekend’s game at Sooke.
The Lions return to Nanoose Bay for the next home game, also against Sooke, May 21 at 11 a.m.
The team, coached by Chris “Hollywood” Agostini, Brett Reid and Bruce Neugebauer, has outscored opponents 306-32 and posted its third straight shutout in the win over Cowichan.
“Defensively, an incredible game by everyone,” said Reid, the offensive co-ordinator. “Highlighted by three interceptions and again giving up zero points, it doesn’t get much better.”
Nathan Brown also had an interception and Enzo Agostini recovered a fumble as the Lions’ defence stifled the visitors.
Will Dubesky added a long touchdown run in the win in the team’s first home game.
