Seventeen Liquid Lightning swimmers started Spring Break with a bunch of personal best swims at the Cherry Blossom Meet last weekend hosted by the KISU Swim Club in Penticton.
Swimmers earned 45 personal best times with Dawson Boys-Kerkes and Delaney Douglas swimming to 100 per cent best times. Overall, the Lightning racked up six first place finishes, eight second place finishes and eight thirds.
“The kids swam awesome,” said Tina Pomponio, assistant Lightning coach. “It was a great way to start spring break.”
Christina Russo, 17, won the 100 metre butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 fly and the 50 freestyle eliminator. Rohan Jacobs, 26, won the 200-m individual medley.
Larissa Ruiz, 22, won the 50 free and came second in the 100 back. Kyra McNulty, 13, took the 50 back and placed second in the 100 back.
Lauren Fauchon, 16, swam to second in the 50 back, 100 breast and 50 fly.
Lacey Falkingham, 16, was second in the 200 IM, while Chenoa Bondar, 15, took second in the 400 and 800 free.
Nine younger Lightning racked up 37 personal best times at the Cherry Blossom Jamboree held March 10.
Ebony Dawick swam to 100 per cent best times including a 3:40 in her 200 IM, which qualifies her for regional meets.
Other Lightning who earn 100 per cent best times included Enrika Guidi, who took 10 seconds off her 50 free and 12 seconds off her 50 back; Pierson Piche who swam to five first place finishes; Ashlinn Salverda, Kayne Ballinger, Angelina Barkley and Hanna Grover.
Other swimmers who posted best times included Jacklyn Pengilly who took off 28 seconds in her 100 free and Rowan Salverda who took off 24 seconds in her 100 free.
The Lightning return to competition in April as three swimmers head off to World Trials in Victoria.
