The Trail minor Little League All Star team put their skills to the test in Potlatch, Idaho over the weekend and found a silver lining as the team prepares for the B.C. Little League Minor Baseball Championship this week.
The Potlatch tournament was the final preparation for the age 9-10 baseball squad before it sets out for Chris Zuehlke Memorial Park in North Vancouver Friday for the provincial championship.
The All Stars won a close 4-2 match against the Latah County All Stars, before running up a 20-4 blow out over the Moscow Mavericks.
The team stretched its record to 3-0 with a 12-4 win over the host team to advance to the final.
“We had some really good hitting and really good pitching and we had good pitching in the finals too,” said coach Chris Elwood.
In the final game the heat caught up with the exhausted squad as it fell to the Triple Play Cubs.
“They hit every hole and we gave them a bunch of runs, so you know, you can’t give away runs,” he added.
The All Stars play in North Van on Saturday with a 5 p.m. game against the host Mt. Seymour. After a day off Sunday, they hit the diamond again against District 5 at 11 a.m.
On Tuesday the All Stars play District 6, followed by a skills competition and banquet. The team plays six games in the round robin to decide the top four teams that will advance to the playoffs with the championship game going July 22 at 1 p.m.
