Local curlers fill podium at mixed curling bonspiel

100 Mile House Curling Club offers fun and competition in 14-team event

The 100 Mile House Curling Club hosted it annual Mixed Bonspiel that featured three days of intense but fun bonspieling, Nov. 18 -20.

It was so much fun, says Curling Club public relations spokesperson Douglas Witty.

“There was great ice conditions and excellent curling.”

While most of the teams were from 100 Mile House, teams travelled from Kamloops, Chilliwack, Ashcroft and Mission to compete. Fourteen teams worked hard to grab a chunk of the cash that was up for grabs.

Although the Quesnel rink from Ashcroft won the A event 6-1, 100 Mile House quartets otherwise dominated the podium.

The Quesnel group included skip Paul Quesnel, Dwight Hodder, Barb Hodder and Janet Quesnel.

Second place in the A event went to the Mitchell Rink from 100 Mile House, and included skip Jim Mitchell, Gwen Mitchell, Wayne Veno and Natalie Hefer.

The B event was won by the Ed Ney rink from 100 Mile House (7-2). The rink included skip Ed Ney, Hollis Ney, Gordon Smith and Karen Smith.

Second place in this event was the Pratt Rink from 100 Mile House, and included skip Bill Pratt, Sherr O’Brien, Rich O’Brien and Mavis Reid.

The winner of the C event was Duane Ney Rink from 100 Mile House (7-0), which consisted of skip Duane Ney, Krissy Moore, Dennis Gosselin and Kristy Anderson.

Second place went to the Todhunter Rink from 100 Mile House, which included skip Bill Todhunter, Shannon Knapp, Kelly Powell and Cheryl Powell.

Dinner was provided by Curling Club Ladies Club and Canadian 2 for 1 Pizza, with Friday night’s appetizers provided by MMK Consulting.

The Curling Club thanks the club volunteers, Sunrise Ford for providing the shuttle and the event sponsors: Sheree’s Shirt Shack, Kal Tire and The Outlaw.
