More 55+ B.C. Games local winners who competed for Zone 2 (Vancouver Island North) from August 25-29:

Coombs’ Hildegard Buschhaus, at age 87, competed in eight track and field events and medaled in each, winning six gold medals, a silver and a bronze.

Errington’s George Harm was part of the men’s doubles badminton team that won a bronze medal.

Peter Giesbrecht (Coombs) won a gold medal in horseshoes.

The team of Gordon Lundine (Qualicum Beach), Wendy Pearce (QB), Joyce and Bruce McCaig (Bowser) took home a silver in floor curling.

Norm Bohl (Nanoose Bay), Larry Meyers (Parksville) and Donald Campbell (Parksville) all captured a silver medal with the “Old Buoys” hockey team.

Terry Harrison (Parksville) earned a bronze medal as part of the dragon boat race team.

Mary Sluyter (Qualicum Beach) came away with seven medals in total (four gold, two silver, one bronze).

Correcting a previous article: Heidi Bromley (Nanoose Bay) brought home nine medals, Harry Keen (Nanoose Bay) brought home seven, Emmy Matte (Parksville) won seven medals, Russell Sharock (Nanoose Bay) won nine medals and Joan Nielsen (Parksville) won six, all in swimming.
