Local tennis players collected several awards at the 129th Vancouver Island Grass Court Championships at the South Cowichan Lawn Tennis Club last week.
Cowichan Bay’s Charles Ayers finished first in men’s 70 singles, Jean Martin of Shawnigan Lake placed second in women’s 65 singles and first in women’s 65 doubles with teammate Paddy Mann of Victoria.
Alan Robinson of Mill Bay and Peter Wilson of Duncan teamed up to win the men’s 75 doubles, finishing ahead of Duncan’s William Pike and Cobble Hill’s Alan Case. Peter Thomas of Duncan made the semifinals of the men’s 60 doubles with teammate Alan Osborne of North Saanich.
