Local pair win PJHL awards

Mak Barden, Stefan Gonzales claim year-end honours

Two local players were listed in the Pacific Junior Hockey League’s year-end awards.

Mak Barden of Surrey is the league scoring champion, netting 26 goals and a league-best 72 assists in 44 games played with the Delta Ice Hawks.

Stefan Gonzales, also of Surrey, was named the Best Defenceman. He scored 13 goals and added 30 assists in 44 games with the Aldergrove Kodiaks, finishing the season as the highest-scoring blue-liner in the league.

Both skaters are still on the ice, competing in the PJHL playoffs. Barden had a pair of assists to help the Ice Hawks sweep the North Delta Devils 4-0 in a quarterfinal series. Gonzales also had a pair of assists, playing in three of five games in a series won by Aldergrove 4-1 over the Ridge Meadows Flames.
