Local women snare masters badminton medals

Campbell River's Dori Manley, Cindy Simpson collect bronze in national championships

Campbell River Badminton Club members Dori Manley and Cindy Simpson each returned home with bronze medals from the Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships, held in late April in Edmonton.

The international event attracted 313 enthusiastic badminton players from around the world and competition was fierce.

Manley, competing in the 35+ age group, played 14  matches overall in doubles and mixed, competing with some of the best in Canada. She and her partner Tarrin Mcdonough won bronze in Women’s Doubles.

Simpson, competing in the 70+ division, played 11 matches in singles, doubles and mixed, with and against players from Canada, Japan and the USA. She achieved two personal bests and won bronze in Women’s Singles.
