The B.C. Winter Games are now complete. The three day competition saw over 1,300 competitors from across B.C. taking place in 18 different sports with some local talent on hand.
Gabrielle Coutourielle came away with a gold medal in the women’s barebow event in archery. The Parksville product had an excellent showing at the event, as did fellow archers Devon Harach and Max Watson, who finished fourth and fifth respectively in the male barebow event. Errington’s Jordan Trill finished 12th in the compound bow. All four of the Arrowsmith Archers represented both Oceanside and Zone 6 (Vancouver Island) very well.
The Vancouver Island U–16 female hockey team finished in fourth place after losing a tight game to the eventual first place team from the Fraser Valley.
Katy Downey and Ashlee Barner participated in their first ever B.C. Winter Games event and it was the second for Blayre Paddock, all three from Parksville.
Sandy Shores Skating Club’s Olivia Bau, from Parksville, placed fifth in the juvenile ladies category. Bau finished with a final score of 33.26, less than 10 points off first place. Chris Raduy of Qualicum Beach finished in the middle of the pack in men’s slalom with an overall time of 1:24.20, 15 seconds off first.
The Fraser Valley totaled the most medals with 103. Vancouver Island finished with 44 medals.
