Lockout All-Stars take floor hockey title

Defeat EDS Trashers in final of Comox Valley Sports & Social Club league

When Stephane LeBlanc leaned over to his defence partner halfway through the championship game to mention the lack of action on his side of the floor, he couldn’t have predicted how involved he was about to get.

The two-goal lead his team, the Lockout All-Stars, were sitting on was about to be tested by the offensive firepower of the previously undefeated EDS Trashers. But when the Trashers’ potent offence finally clicked enough to tie it at 4-4, LeBlanc fired back with a go-ahead goal from the point. And when they knotted it up again at 5-5 with just a minute left, it was LeBlanc who sniped the eventual winner in the shootout, for the 6-5 win.

The Comox Valley Sports & Social Club’s Floor Hockey League championship game pitted the league’s most potent offence (95 goals for the Trashers) against the best defence (30 goals against for the All-Stars). The low-scoring final was due in large part to standout goaltending performances by All-Stars captain David Adama and Trashers captain Cedric Robert, two of the best in the league.

The Puck ‘N Clowns grabbed their highest ever finish with a third place result after a 10-0 win over the defending champion Grinders, while the Puck-Offs finished fifth with a 6-4 win over Shut Your 5-Hole. The Jets ended in seventh spot with an 11-4 victory over the Ugly Pucklings, while the No Regretzkies finished in ninth with a win over the Blue Ballers.
