Luckies to play Stampeders in CIHL playoffs

The Luckies will host the Williams Lake Stampeders (13-5-0) at home on Jan. 28 for game one of a best-of-three series.

Looking to the Coy Cup, the Houston Luckies are gearing up for round one of the CIHL playoffs.

The Luckies will host the Williams Lake Stampeders (13-5-0) at home on Jan. 28 for game one of a best-of-three series.

Williams Lake finished second in the league this year. Houston (8-10-0) took the seventh seed in the eight-team playoffs.

Other first round match-ups include the Smithers Steeleads—who are coming off a perfect 18-0 season—facing the eighth-seed Prince Rupert Rampage (7-10-1).

Wrapping up third place overall were last year’s Coy Cup champion Kitimat Ice Demons (11-4-3), who will battle with the No. 6 Terrace River Kings (8-10-0).

And lastly the Lac La Hache Tomahawks, who surprised many around the league with an 8-9-1 campaign (good for fifth overall), will meet the fourth-place Quesnel Kangaroos (10-6-2).

Round two of the playoffs will start on the Feb. 4 weekend.

The four-team Coy Cup final will be hosted by the Kitimat Ice Demons, who took it last year.

The Coy Cup, donated by Colonel Coy of the 50th Gordon Highlanders (now the 16th Scottish) of Victoria, BC to the CIHL  runs Mar. 13 – 17.
