Friday, May 13 was an unlucky day for the Winter Trucking Storm, but fortune smiled on the Wild, who beat the Storm 18-13 in the Cowichan Women’s Football League’s first Friday game of 2016.

The Wild got two touchdowns from Rhiannon Kemmler and one from Sue Glenn in the victory, while Keri McKelvie and Val Chambers each recorded an interception and Dieneke Pedersen had a sack.

The Storm got a pick-six from Tien Nguyen and another touchdown from Rachel Paddle. Katrina Waldron added a single point after picking off a convert attempt and running it back 105 yards, and Jenn Elliott added an interception of her own.

Also on Friday, the Hindsight Fishing Ravens got touchdowns from five different players in a 33-21 win over the Law.

Veronica Smith, Jamie Russell, Lauren James, Chelsea Strandlund and Rikki Wylie all scored for the Ravens. Russell added converts of both one and two points, and Strandlund had two interceptions.

Leanne Closson had two touchdowns and a rouge for the Law, with Wendy Charles adding two converts and Tanya Green one. Rachel Hastings had three sacks and Kim Scafe had an interception.

The Wild went on to play what Chambers called their “best game against [the Crew] ever” in a 19-2 loss on Sunday. Kemmler and Glenn each had two interceptions and the Wild picked up two points on a first-quarter safety when Crew quarterback Jackie Harrison forgot to put her flags on and caught a snap in the end zone.

Harrison’s teammates had her back and made up for the error as Jess Lines-Wikkerink, Marilou Sullivan and Nicole Pugh scored touchdowns. Sullivan added a convert and an interception. Wilhelmina Toews had two picks, Lines-Wikkerink and Mould had one each, and Kat Olsen had two sacks.

Also on Sunday, the Ravens beat the Storm 54-12. Strandlund, Smith and Wylie each scored two touchdowns, and James and Autumn Cooper had one apiece. James, Dana Thorne and Nikita Kitagawa all added two-point converts, and James had two sacks.

The Storm got touchdowns from Waldron and Shea Davidson and a sack from Chelsea Morton.

The Law beat the Snap Fitness Sirens 31-14. Closson had two touchdowns, and Scafe, Charles and Toni Williams had one each. Tanya Green added a convert and Rachel Hastings had a sack.

Deanne Mearns had a touchdown and a convert for the Sirens, Christine Switzer had a touchdown, Claudette Crisp had a convert, and Carmen Zimmer had an interception.
