LVR boys soccer lose to Trail in provincial playdowns

Rainy conditions and solid competition from JL Crowe made it difficult for the Nelson boys to gain a win.

Nelson’s L.V. Rogers boys soccer team lost to Trail’s JL Crowe 1-0 in the first game in Trail on their pitch on Friday.

Poor weather made for difficult playing conditions, which put the Nelson team out of contention.

Invermere went on to beat Trail 2-0 to win the Kootenay provincial birth for the second year running. LVR played Golden in the consolation round and won 6-0.

“It was a very rainy windy day,” wrote LVR coach Simon Liddell to the Star. In LVR’s match Trail scored the singular goal off a free kick that slipped through the LVR goalie’s hands.

Liddell explained how the weather continued to effect the play.

“They had the wind the first half and it was strong enough that we had to keep the ball low to counter,” he wrote.

Liddell gave Trail credit for a game well played.

“Trail played a great game: very physical, very defensive and it was difficult to build any momentum,” wrote Liddell.

“We beat them three times this season but this was the game that mattered and things just did not go our way. We had some great late chances but could not get the ball in the net.”

Liddell wrote that it has been a great season for the Bombers, adding he and the players look forward to playing again next year.
