The strong 2017 season continues for Mission’s Bryce MacKenzie.

The Mission Secondary student competed against some of the best in Canada at the Harry Jerome International Track Classic on June 29, and once again impressed.

MacKenzie placed third in the men’s high jump event.

He leapt to a height of 2.01 metres, beating out the fourth-place competitor by .05m. He actually tied with Joel Dallas Siega with the 2.01 jump, but Siega cleared the bar on his second attempt while MacKenzie did so on his third, which dropped him to third place overall.

Both MacKenzie and Siega made three attempts at 2.06m, but were unsuccessful. Django Lovett, who competes in high jump for the University of New Mexico Lobos, finished first with a jump of 2.20m.

In other news, MacKenzie will be heading to Winnipeg as a part of Team BC at the Canada Games later this summer.

He’ll compete in long jump at the event, which runs from July 28 to Aug. 13 in the Manitoba capital.

The news comes on the heels of MacKenzie’s stellar performance at the 2017 BC High School Track and Field Championships, where he won a gold in senior boys high jump and silver medals in long jump and triple jump.
