Cory Conway’s hat trick in the first period on Monday spurred the Shamrocks to a 6-1 lead going into the second period. From there the Shamrocks’ defence and goalie Matt Vinc were able to frustrate the Chiefs. Scrums ensued after whistles and tension rose due to the one-sided scoreline.

Jeff Shattler, Mitch Jones and Karsen Leung also scored in the first. Shattler then scored his second of the night, the Rocks’ only goal of the second period, with Chiefs attacker Steven Keough also scoring in the second, which ended 7-2.

Shamrocks captain Scott Ranger scored his first of the Mann Cup to start the third period. That made it 8-2, when Cody Jamieson sparked the Chiefs comeback with three goals in three minutes by Roger Vyse and Steven Keogh to bring the score to 8-5.

Twitter feeds reported sloppy play from the Shamrocks in the third but the Rocks were able to stop the Chiefs’ momentum, as the visitors went 13 minutes until the Chiefs’ Kasey Beirnes scored the last goal of the game with the extra attacker.

Colin Doyle racked up four assists for the Chiefs. Jeff Shattler was named the player of the game for the Shamrocks, adding four assists to his two goals.
