Manning set for Spring races

The resort has big plans for a fun weekend but they have been busy hosting a movie cast and crew this week.

“We’ve got about 200 to 300 people working around the lodge,” said duty manager Ruth Edwards on Monday. “They’re shooting a movie about a family and ghosts, or something. They’re keeping the name a secret for now.

“They start at 7:00 in the morning and they go until 10:00 at night,” added Edwards. “They’ll be gone on Friday.”

Hopefully, they’ll leave a few props behind, as they’d come in handy at one of the fun events the resort staff have planned for Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, the 26th annual Streak the Streak giant slalom race will run from 10:30 to 11:30.

Race rules say: “Teams consist of 3 people, and must contain 1 female and 1 over 35 years old. The combined ages of the team must be equal or greater than 80 years.”

Registration is from 9:00 to 10:30.

Saturday afternoon, they’ll be doing “Bingo Find the Person,” a free event for kids aged 12 and under, that gets them skiing all over the mountain to get their bingo card filled out by various “planted” people.

At 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, the Dummy Downhill will see man-made skiers race down a course, trying to travel the farthest distance and/or get the best air.

The day wraps up with the Slush Cup event, where skiers or snowboarders schuss down the hill and try to make it across a pit of slush.
