Maple Ridge golfer John Kahlert had a great start to the B.C. Summer Games, scoring an eagle during competition on Friday.
Kahlert scored the eagle, or two under par, on the 9th hole at the Cowichan Golf and Country Club in Duncan.
Kahlert, known as JP, has been golfing with his father ever since he could walk and only recently shifted his sole focus to golf from hockey.
He is a member at Meadow Gardens Golf Course and has been a junior club champion. He also competed at the B.C. Boys’ Golf Championship in Kamloops and will compete at the upcoming B.C. Juvenile Golf Championship in Kelowna.
Kahlert’s oldest sister won a gold medal at the B.C. Summer Games in 2014.
Cowichan was awarded the 2018 B.C. Summer Games after a bid process in 2012.
The games wrap up July 22 at 1:30 p.m. with the closing ceremony.
