It was a battle of Penticton teams — the Mariners versus the Twins — for Under-11 Mosquito supremacy.

The Mariners came out victorious, 6-2, in the 12-team tournament hosted by the South Okanagan Minor Baseball Association that featured Penticton teams along with Summerland, West Kelowna, Osoyoos and Princeton.

Mariners coach Jeremy Sherburne said it was a close game against the Twins.

“They are a really good team,” said Sherburne. “At this level, the teams are all really good. It feels like anybody can win.”

The Mariners won all five of its games, while the Penticton Tigers finished third.

The main thing Sherburne wanted to see his players get from the tournament was having fun.

“We wanted them to continue to get better,” he said. “Demonstrate good sportsmanship. Win with grace and effort.”

Among the things that stood out to Sherburne were the players’ positive attitudes as well as the fun they had on the field. Sherburne said there were several close games.

Sherburne also thanked the volunteers, coaches and umpires for the great job they did in helping the kids enjoy the tournament.

The Penticton Red won the B Division.
