Marlins medal at the AAs

Three swimmers from the Kitimat Marlins Swim Club who achieved at least one AA Provincial qualifying time travelled to Kelowna for the AA Provincial long course (50 metre pool) swimming championships.

Three swimmers from the Kitimat Marlins Swim Club who achieved at least one AA Provincial qualifying time travelled to Kelowna for the AA Provincial long course (50 metre pool) swimming championships.

The three swam extremely well and all achieved many personal best times and brought home both relay and individual medals.

Paige Collier, competing in the 13-year-old girl division, achieved her first individual medal at a provincial championships in the 100m freestyle. It was a very close race as she out-touched the fourth place finisher by a mere 4100ths of a second.

Paige also helped the Points North regional freestyle relay (Points North is made up of clubs from Prince Rupert, Terrace, Kitimat, Smithers and Houston) win the silver medal in the open age division.

Paige also made the finals (top 8) in the 200m IM (4th), 100m butterfly (6th) and 200m freestyle (7th).

Rachel Rice (15), competing in the 15-up girls category made three individual finals.

She placed 6th in the 200m fly, 7th in the 100m backstroke and 8th in the 400m free.  Rachel also helped the Points North open freestyle and medley relays to silver medals.

Danika Howell, competing in the 12 year old girl category, did the tough task of achieving personal best times in all eight of her individual swims.

She made one final with a 4th place finish in the 400m individual medley and helped the open Points North squad to a silver medal in the team medley relay.
