Maroon boys bank Valley silver

Fulton Maroons advance to provincials after silver-medal showing at Senior AA boys Valley championships.

The No. 7 Fulton Maroons were runners-up to the No. 6 George Elliot Coyotes, falling 3-1 (25-21, 25-15, 10-25, 25-22) in the gold-medal game of the Okanagan Valley Senior AA Boys Volleyball Championships last weekend in Kamloops.

GESS controlled the first two sets by dominating the block and adding several kills. Fulton took the third set with good team play, but GESS held strong in the fourth set, even after a serious challenge by the Maroons.

In pool play, Fulton stopped the Revelstoke Rams 2-1 (17-25, 25-19, 15-7) and the South Okanagan Hornets of Oliver 2-0 (25-10, 25-8) before falling 2-0 to George Elliot (25-12, 25-18).

The Maroons dispatched the Sa-Hali Sabres of Kamloops 3-1 (25-18, 25-16, 19-25, 25-22) in the semis.

Fulton, George Elliot and Revelstoke advance to provincials, which start next Wednesday at UBC Okanagan in Kelowna.
