Koalden Gudeit-Oakden scampered for touchdown runs of 30 and nine yards as the Fulton Maroons stuffed the Duchess Park Condors of Prince George 41-27 in senior AA varsity exhibition football play Friday night at Greater Vernon Athletics Park.
Fulton, who led 21-19 at the recess, received a 50-yard running score from Ryan Rumsey, a one-yard touchdown plunge by quarterback Ike Olson, a 12-yard rushing score by Jeff Han and an electrifying 95-yard interception for a TD by Caden Doyle. Han was 5-for-5 on extra points.
“This was a solid win for our team against a very game Duchess Park team,” said Fulton head coach Mike Scheller. “I have to credit DP and their coach Richard Bundock. They came down shorthanded on players and coaches and they fought their guts out. They played right to the very end and showed a lot of toughness in this game. We appreciate them making the eight- hour journey to play us.”
Rumsey rang up 150 yards on 13 touches, while Gudeit produced 85 yards on 10 carries and Olson ran four times for 27 yards. Cole Hunter provided 25 yards on three runs.
Gudeit registered seven tackles, while Doyle earned five and Olson and Satchel Mcdermid each pocketed four. Gudeit compiled two interceptions and Teigen Derkach one. Olson fashioned two sacks, while Andy Goldenthal and Isaiah Foureyes each had one.
“Offensively, we are very happy with this result,” added Scheller. “We ran the ball for 326 yards so our offensive line of JJ Heaton, Andy Goldenthal, Logan Higgs, Anthony Prince and Ethan Goddard did a fantastic job of blocking. They opened big holes for our backs. Rumsey had a great game; he ran extremely tough and carried the load for us. Satchel Mcdermid had his best game as a Maroon at linebacker.”
Meanwhile, the VSS Panthers mauled the Pitt Meadows Marayders 40-3 in the late Friday night lights game.
Charles Lemay was a standout on both sides of the ball for the Panthers. The Grade 10 tailback and outside linebacker led the Cats with six tackles, chipped in 113 yards on the ground and reached the end zone three times.
“Charles is getting better and better each week,” said VSS head coach Sean Smith. “With injuries, he’s been pressed into more game action that we would have liked, but he’s playing faster and faster with each rep.”
Bradley Hladik extended his TD streak to three games, including an all-planet 55-yard punt return and a 34-yard catch and run for scores.
“I can’t say enough good things about how Bradley is progressing right now,” said Smith. “Last week he was able to get deep on a couple of occasions, and today he used his footwork to extend plays and get to the end zone. His development has made our offence more dynamic. ”
The Panthers found out Saturday their next scheduled opponent (Seaton Sonics) has folded their program which will result in a bye week.
Quarterback Thomas Hyett hit on 4-of-12 passes for 110 yards to go along with two touchdown strikes to Bradley and Ben Hladik (46 yds). Lemay led all tacklers with six while Tyler Semeniuk added five. Josh Hyer had four and a pair of sacks.
