The Fulton Maroons opened the Okanagan Valley Senior AA Boys Rugby Union season Tuesday with a 33-5 win over the Kelowna Christian Knights at Grahame Park.
Winger Kris Davidson supplied a pair of tries, while Dalton Anderson scored once and booted three converts for the Maroons. Daniel Ferreira and Mike Tkatschow also provided tries.
Ferreira, a flanker, opened the offence after some great rucking and driving by the forwards, and a quick ball by scrum-half Nick Pantaleo.
Anderson, a centre, then scampered in from 15 metres, breaking a few tackles to make it 12-0.
Some good second-phase ball by prop Tkatschow and backrow Greg Hyde set up Davidson for his first try. His second score came after he evaded several tackles for a 40-metre drive, which he capped by taking the ball off the side of a ruck and touching down close to the posts.
Both the junior and senior Maroons are in the Okanagan 7s championship Saturday (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) at Grahame Park. The top two teams advance to the 7s provincials the following weekend at St. George’s in Vancouver.
