The Fulton Maroons grounded the Seaton Sonics 59-18 in North Zone Senior AA Girls Basketball League play Wednesday night.
Nicole Olson drained 15 points for the Maroons, while Kieanna Boomer-Jones dialed a dozen, Cayleigh Graham canned 10 and Andie Kaneda sank eight.
“Our girls out re-bounded Seaton,” said Fulton coach Jessica Kirkland. “Our passing game was solid and every team member was on the score board.”
The Maroons, who also have Linda Zumer on their coaching staff, have two returning Grade 12s and the remainder of the team is made up of four Grade 11s and junior call-ups.
The Fulton junior girls lost 31-28 to Seaton with Paige Noakes sparking the Maroons with 15 points.
Jordyn Cullum flushed 37 points as the VSS Panthers stormed the Kalamalka Lakers 98-12 in other senior girls action.
Megan Rouault and Anna Rice each pocketed 13 points.
“The girls shot the ball very well which is a good sign,” said VSS head coach Lonny Mazurak. “Megan Wiebe was a beast on the boards and on defence as her impressive stat line was 10 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks.”
In senior AA boys play Tuesday night, Noah Alleyne counted 18 points and six rebounds as Fulton dispatched Seato 64-48.
Caden Doyle racked up 11 points and a dozen rebounds for the Maroons, while Hunter Kreiger collected 13 points and eight boards. Ike Olson added seven points and 10 rebounds.
The Fulton senior boys alumni games go Saturday with a 10 a.m. registration.
“We’re expecting a really good turnout,” said longtime Maroons head coach Dale Olson.
The senior AA VSS Panther boys are at the Kwantlen Park Tournament in Surrey where they faced Vancouver’s Prince of Wales and Sullivan Heights Stars of Surrey Thursday.
In Grade 8 boys play, Fulton started strong with an 11-0 run and held on to down Seaton 43-20.
Seaton caught fire in the second half and pulled within six points and then got within five at the beginning of the fourth quarter behind a tenacious defence. However, the Maroons scored 13 straight to finish the game behind strong offensive play from Jacob Friesen and Levi Lee.
Friesen was high scorer with 13 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots. Lee fashioned 11 points, four assists and five rebounds.
Quin Williamson chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds.
“It was a rough game out there today,” said Fulton coach Johnal Lee.“It looked more like football than basketball. Seaton is tough and athletic and we know that they will continue to be a difficult team to play as the season progresses. I’m proud of my boys the way they closed out this game. It’s an ugly win, but we’ll take it.”
