The Fulton Maroons warmed up for their annual trip to Washington State by ambushing the Mt. Baker Wild of Cranbrook 58-0 in exhibition senior football play Saturday afternoon at Grahame Park.
The Maroons got everybody into the game as they prepare to face the powerful Omak Pioneers Friday night. The seniors and junior varsity team will take in the Big Sky Conference game Saturday night in Cheney, Wa. between the Eastern Washington Eagles and Montana State Bobcats.
Fulton head coach Mike Scheller was pleased with the way his crew executed.
“We had very few penalties, no turnovers and made few mental mistakes,” said Scheller. “Those are marks of good football teams, and our kids work hard at being smart and disciplined. Mt. Baker is a very young and inexperienced team, but were game opponents. We were just more experienced and better on the day.”
Clayton Mottus caught a four-yard TD pass from Kyle Richardson, a 40-yarder from Marshall Kazemir and ran 47 yards for another score to spark the Maroons.
Mike Ochoa, on a 45-yard scamper, Kyle Richardson, Devon Harris, Roman Le and Tanner Bishop also supplied rushing touchdowns. Clark Richardson booted a 30-yard field goal to complete the scoring.
Ochoa finished with two carries 60 yards, while Matt Parlee had three touches for 28 yards. The Maroons had 15 different players run the ball.
Kyle Richardson completed four of seven passes for 39 yards, while Kazemir was 2-for-4 for 54 yards.
Mottus provided 55 yards on three catches, while Lucas Hofer grabbed one catch for 19 yards and Cody Nevens hauled in two balls for 19 yards.
Broden Romanovitch registered four tackles, while Kyle Richardson earned three and Mark Wagner and Sean Greene had two each.
Cody Lutes and Wagner had one sack apiece, while Nevens and Clark Richardson each produced one interception.
“Line coach Shane (Gator) Gaythorpe did a great job of getting our players blocking well in the kicking game,” said Scheller. “Three of our linemen scored rushing TDs and it is good to see the big boys get the ball.”
Scheller also praised safety Broden Romanovitch for a great showing, while singling out Coles and Sean Greene at linebacker.
