Salmon Arm’s Alysson Marshall is now in Europe as part of a three-member Cross Country Canada Convergence Group joining the National World Cup Team for early FIS Races and World Cup starts.
She arrived in Ostersund, Sweden on Nov. 7, one of the few places in Europe with any snow to ski on. For the FIS races in nearby Bruksvallarna, only one of three races could be run due to the lack of snow which was Marshall’s least favourite, the 10 km skate. Alysson finished 51st out of 90.
The next scheduled FIS races in Rovaniemi were cancelled due to lack of snow so the Canadian Women’s Team stayed in Ostersund to train.
Next up, on Nov. 25 to 27 was the FIS World Cup Ruka Nordic Opening in Kuusamo, Finland, near the Arctic Circle. In the classic sprints, Marshall was 50th out of 90 top women in the world, just 14.45 seconds from first, and 4.5 seconds from qualifying in the top 30 for the heats. Here, milliseconds count.
Marshall is now in Davos, Switzerland and will travel to Dusseldorf, Germany for World Cup Sprints in the heart of the city.
