Martial arts event benefits St. Joseph’s Food Bank

Budofest will take place at Canadian Martial Arts Academy on North Railway Avenue

A local martial arts instructor is combining a grading for his students, with an opportunity for the public to learn some new skills and help the local food bank.

Chris Ginter is a sixth-degree black belt in jujitsu, runs a Mission-based school, and is organizing Budofest, a two-day event that is bringing karate and jujitsu instructors together.

Ginter said he was involved with a similar fundraiser in Maple Ridge last year with the Friends in Need Food Bank, and this year is collecting donations for the St. Joseph’s Food Bank on Seventh Avenue.

Those interested can take part in karate and jujitsu instruction throughout the weekend, and are encouraged to bring donations for those less fortunate.

Ginter runs his school out of the Canadian Martial Arts Academy on North Railway Avenue, directly across from the West Coast Express station.
