Marysville kid Carter Bancks named Utica Comets captain

Former Kimberley Dynamiters player and local product, Carter Bancks has added to his already impressive professional resume by being named the captain of the Vancouver Canucks minor league affiliate Utica Comets of the AHL on Friday.

Bancks, 27, grew up in Marysville and started his hockey career with the Dynamiters playing in 66 games and earning 54 points from 2004-2006.

He played major junior with the Lethbridge Hurricanes where he served as their captain during his final WHL season. He then went on to play several season’s with the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat — the affiliate of the Calgary Flames — before joining the Comets in 2014.

Bancks had a career season for the Comets last year picking up 14 goals and 28 assists while being the only member of the team to play in all 76 games.

Bancks was named the Comets 2015-16 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the Utica community last year.

He is the fourth captain in Utica’s history and previously served as an alternate captain.
