Massie lifts Flyers in shootout

Logan Massie caps seven-point performance with shootout winner as Flyers ice Bulls 8-7 in Vernon Hockey League.

It was only fitting that Logan Massie’s shootout goal gave the Westwood Cabinets Flyers an 8-7 Vernon Hockey League win over the MFC Bulls Wednesday night at Wesbild Centre.

Massie beat Bulls’ goalie Michael Hansma for the winner after he racked up 4+3 in regulation. Rich Galvagno and Corey Massie also converted shootout chances.

Jeff Kuzniak had 3+2 and Corey Massie earned six assists for the Flyers. Byron Tiggelaar took the win, stoning Jesse Niemi in the shootout after getting beat by Pete Purves.

Niemi, Kevin Beckner and Shane Burgi each had two snipes and Jeff Mushaluk added 1+2 for the Bulls. Taylor Jackson had four helpers.

Mike Sutch scored at 7:17 of the final period as the Royal LePage Whalers shaded the M&K Ready-Mix Bruins Tuesday night at Civic Arena.

Cory Nicholson drew the assist on Sutch’s winner, while Marc Bevan scored the other Whaler goal, from Denis Ouellette.

Dave Claeys replied for the Bruins, with assists to Dave Gillespie and Matt Schneider.

Bryce Kakoske, who five months ago was playing for the Vernon Vipers in the Royal Bank Cup, pulled the natural hat trick in the first period as the R.E. Postill & Sons Orphans iced the Teale Utility Canucks 10-6 at Priest Valley Arena.

Leath Gare added 3+3 for the Orphans, who led 5-2 at the midway break. Rob Bauml supplied 2+1, while Chris Bradford earned 1+3 and Ryan Kurbis also scored in front of Rocky Spinks.

Tyler Quiring and Nick Kalashnikoff each had two snipes for the Canucks, who got 1+2 from Mike Burke and one goal from Reid Church. Troy Killingbeck pocketed four helpers.
