Riley McLean of the Vernon Kokanee set a Canadian record in claiming a gold and three silver medals earlier this month at the Speedo Para Can Am Championships in Edmonton.
McLean, making his CanAm debut, set Kokanee benchmarks in each of his four events in Edmonton, recording gold in the S4 class 50-metre backstroke in one minute, 11.27 seconds.
He set a national record in taking silver in the 50 butterfly (1:23.48), and was also runner-up in the 50 freestyle (1:12.08) and 100 back (2:35.57).
McLean competed against world-class athletes from Korea, Brazil, U.S., France and Canada.
Meanwhile, Meredith Levorson clocked four new Kokanee Over 15 girls records, finishing with three gold, one silver and three bronze at the 22nd annual Kamloops MJB Law Classic last weekend.
Levorson pocketed gold in the 50 free (26.69), 100 free (57.54) and 200 free (2:05.20), silver in the 400 free (4:25.73), and bronze in the 800 free (9:30.13), 200 back (2:19.05) and 400 IM (5:05.20).
In total, Kokanee swimmers earned seven gold, six silver and six bronze in Kamloops. Other results include:
Under 10 Boys – Thomas Mardiros won silver in the 100 breaststroke (1:48.95) and bronze in the 50 breast (50.74).
U11 Girls – Karli Bracken earned B.C. AA standards in the 200 fly (3:35.73) and 200 back (3:04.97) to qualify for B.C. Short Course AA Championships, Feb. 13-15, in Chilliwack.
U12 Girls – Kelsey Fillion earned gold in the 100 fly (1:16.37), and silver in the 400 free (5:04.79) and 200 free (2:20.97). Fillion also earned her second B.C. AAA time standard in taking bronze in the 100 free (1:05.83), and in the 50 free (29.26), she made her third AAA standard, qualifying her for B.C. Short Course AAA Championships, March 5-7, in Surrey.
U13 Boys – Nicholas Phillips achieved B.C. AAA time standards in the 1,500 (19:51.76), 50 Fly (34.23) and 400 IM (5:45.00), earning his way to AAA championships in Surrey.
U14 Boys – Zac Benn uncovered silver in the 100 fly (1:00.76), making his second U16 Boys Western Canadian standard. Westerns will be in Edmonton, Feb. 19-22. Benn swam to another Silver in the 50 fly (27.85) and added bronze in the 50 back (30.62).
Landon Hampshire claimed silver in the 200 breast (2:53.64) to record his first Boys 14-15 B.C. AA standard. He swam another AA standard in the 100 fly (1:08.87), qualifying for the Chilliwack meet.
Over 15 Girls – Kiah Lee pocketed gold in the 50 breast (34.82), 100 breast (1:15.32) and 200 breast (2:43.95).
