Five athletes from Okanagan Gymnastics Centre travelled to Surrey Feb. 28 and March 1 for the 30th annual Carol Lenz Memorial for women’s gymnastics and 28th Surrey Classic for men’s gymnastics.
It was the last event for the athletes to prepare before heading into trials for Westerns and first trials to Canadian Championships.
Gabriela Beselt competed in the National Novice category and and finished second overall, taking home silver medals on the uneven bars, balance beam, and all around. She also earned a bronze medal on vault and a gold medal on floor. This was a strong competition for Beselt as she prepares for trials to Canadian championships.
In the National Pre-Novice Aspire competition, Kamryn Greenhalgh finished with a silver medal on vault and a third place on balace beam. Amanda Jaggard finished with a silver medal on the uneven bars, while Samantha Pelletier finished with the bronze on the uneven bars.
In the Men’s competition, Brady Clegg competed in the Level 4 (Under 13) category and finished with a silver medal for the horizontal high bar and two bronze medals for his performance on the floor exercise and parallel bars.
Following the competition, coach Sergei Chelest was approached by a nice lady who complimented the OGC athletes and coaches, by mentioning the girls looked good and were a pleasure to watch compete.
Chelest asked if she was involved with gymnastics and she answered, “Yes, I am Carol Lenz’s mother.”
