Jarrett Medhurst pocketed four goals, including the winner, as the Armstrong Shamrocks upended the host Kamloops Rattlers 9-8 in Thompson Okanagan Senior Lacrosse League play Friday night.
Down by a pair of goals heading into the final period, the Rocks netted five in the final 20 minutes to earn their first win of the young season.
The previously undefeated Rattlers opened the scoring on the first shot of the game with former Rock AJ Lockwood putting one behind netminder Brett Logan.
The hosts extended their lead before Medhrust put Armstrong on the board. Kamloops replied on the powerplay, but Steve Clark brought the Rocks back within a goal before the break.
The second period saw Kamloops take advantage of the powerplay, scoring a couple of quick goals before the Shamrocks answered with singles by Medhurst and Clark to make it 6-4.
The Rattlers again used the man advantage to go up by four goals early in the third period. After that, the Rocks’ offence came alive, starting with a quick defensive transition goal by Jamie Cockerill.
Armstrong’s special teams also started to click, with a powerplay goal by Thomas Beleger, followed by a shorthanded tally by Clark.
Medhurst pulled the Rocks even with three minutes left in regulation.
Armstrong hosts the Kelowna Raiders Wednesday night (7:30) at the Nor-Val Sports Centre.
Meanwhile, the Baby Shamrocks appear to have discovered their offensive touch after a 14-4 pounding of the Kamloops Venom Friday night at Nor-Val.
Joel Castle, with a four-goal effort, and Drew Hassard, with three goals and three helpers, jumpstarted the Irish attack in front of Josh Pointe.
Stephen Ringdal assisted on five goals and netted one. Other offence came from Willy Hanley (1+3), Conor Payne (1+2), Dan Peterson (1+2), Carston Schlaak, Keith Minnis and Nathan Marcetta.
The 1-3 Rocks, who visited the Vernon Source For Sports Tigers Saturday night at Wesbild Centre, held period leads of 3-1 and 8-2.
Trent Maunder, with a pair, and Kyle McLellan, with 1+3, were the 1-3 Venom’s main threats.
Vernon lost its first game of the year Thursday night in Kelowna as they fell 21-14 to the host Raiders.
Brendan Urban torched the Tiger defence for 10 points (6+4), while Ryland Davidson (2+4), Patrick McMillan (1+5) and Brock Embury (3+1) also had big nights for Kelowna.
Darryl Landels led the 1-1 Tigers with 3+1, Nolan Frame had 2+2, and Jordan Orr, Ryan Sarazin and Sean Connors each recorded 2+1.
The Raiders’ Evan Helgesen racked up 47 penalty minutes.
Tanner Belsham had 41 stops for the win. Vernon starter Joel Fruncillo (15 saves) was relieved by Aaron Jensen (16 saves).
