It’s time once again for a handful of local hockey players to showcase their skills.
MEI is hosting its second annual Hockey Skills Event today (Friday) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Centre Ice, with schools from throughout the region participating.
Competitions run on both rinks starting at 9 a.m. For two hours, Grade 6 to 12 players will rotate through the six skills stations, competing in fastest skater, hardest shot, stickhandling, multi-directional skating, shooting accuracy and a goalie competition.
Following the skills competition, guest speaker Ryan Walter will talk to the youth about leadership, performance and activating positive change both on and off the ice.
After lunch, all players participate in a three-on-three tournament for several hours.
The schools attending the event are: MEI middle and secondary, Robert Bateman secondary, Chilliwack middle, Hatzic middle, R. E. Mountain secondary, Rosedale middle, Sardis secondary and Yorkson Creek middle and secondary.
