The Johnston Meier Insurance Meteors won their opening Bantam baseball playoff game 10-9 over Kelowna Jays Tuesday night at Marshall Field.
The Meteors’ bats continued to sizzle with Tyler Wiebe, Jordy Griffiths and Shelby Hartwig all perfect at the plate.
Wiebe and Hartwig collected two ribbies each, and Griffiths showed great leather in the infield, making great plays and putting the tag on a couple of base stealers.
The turning point came in the fourth inning when Lucas Colgan smacked a two-run double to give the Meterors the lead.
Starting on the mound was Tayler Elliot, who pitched a solid three innings before Wiebe came in for the last two innings, striking out four.
The C&A Contracting Royals continued their winning ways with a 12-11 clipping of the Dominion Securities Reds in Pee Wee playoff action Tuesday night at Creekside Park.
The Royals were without several regulars, but Caleb Versteeg, with six strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings, and Nathan Nesbitt, who blanked the Reds in the sixth inning, helped hold the fort for the Royals.
Joey Kohut scored three times, while Nesbitt, Bailey Wellman and Chad Walker each scored twice. Clinton Minamide, Jackson Brownrigg, Chris Dlouhy and Kaden Costigan also contributed runs and solid defence for the Royals.
Tony Campen scored twice for the Reds and closed things out on the mound, while Noah Foufoulas reached base in all three of his at-bats, swiped four bases, and made a tag out at home plate for a big out in the third.
In Mosquito playoff action, the Global West Mortgage Red Sox outlasted the Union Securities Yankees 9-7 Monday night at Lakeview Park.
The Yankees led by two runs after three innings before the Red Sox battled back, getting three shutout innings from Eric Colwell.
Also pitching for the Red Sox were Karim Lubbers, Maguire Lauridsen and Maguire McIntosh.
The Sox offence was sparked by Jaden Parsons and Jeff Estrada, with a strong showing by Caden Bracken on defence.
