The Salmon Arm SilverBacks have added a hometown sniper to their lineup.

The Gorillas traded Vernon product Michael Roberts and future considerations to the West Kelowna Warriors for the Hockey Canada playing rights to 20-year-old centre Shane Danyluk.

Danyluk rang up seven goals and 24 points with the Western Hockey League Prince Albert Raiders. He played four years with Prince Albert, producing 25 goals and 77 points in 248 games.

“Shane will be a dynamic forward for the ‘Backs this season,” said Salmon Arm GM Troy Mick. “Shane wanted to play his last year of Junior eligibility in his hometown in front of family and friends. We are absolutely thrilled that he will be wearing a ‘Backs jersey this year. When you acquire a player of Shane’s calibre, you have to give up a good player. We wish Michael Roberts the best of luck this coming season.”

Roberts, 19, played 63 games with the Vernon Vipers (4-6-10) before being traded to the Surrey Eagles last season. He had 4-8-12 in 24 games with Surrey before being dealt to the Trail Smoke Eaters.

Roberts, a winger, played one game for Trail and then landed with the SilverBacks, earning 4-6-10 in 29 games.

Rivermen, Caps swap defencemen

Meanwhile, the Langley Rivermen have acquired the CJHL playing rights to D Jacob Kearley from the Cowichan Capitals in exchange for the rights to D Charlie Pelnik and futures.

Kearly, 19, of Newmarket, Ont., generated six goals and 20 points with the Victoria Grizzlies last year.

Pelnik, 19, of North Carolina, had 1-9-10 with the Rivermen.

Smoke Eater forward Robbie Johnson has accepted an offer and will play for the Falcons at Air Force in the 2016-17 season.

Johnson, a product of the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy (POE) U-18 produced seven goals and 11 points in just 15 games in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League’s (CSSHL) Prep Division last season.

In 14 North American Prospect Hockey League (NAPHL) games, he recorded a goal and three assists.

A native of Kamloops, Johnson came on in the latter half of the year and was a pleasant surprise for Trail head coach Nick Deschenes at Smokies’ spring camp in March.
