The Oceanside Midget B Sharks took home silver medals at the provincial lacrosse championships held in Burnaby recently.
The Sharks reached the gold medal round after surviving four gruelling round-robin games over three days. They beat Burnaby 6-3, Ridge Meadows 7-2, Penticton 5-4, and lost 7-2 against Prince George.
The Sharks advanced to the semi-final and earned their spot in the final after a rousing 12-7 win against Saanich. In the final, the Sharks had an opportunity to avenge their only lost in the round-robin against Prince George. They fought hard but went down 5-3 to take home the silver.
“It was a really close final,” said coach David Jamieson. “We lost 7-2 to this team in the round robin but in the second time around we battled hard.
“Prince George were a little bit bigger and had more players in their second year. We had a lot of first year players so to come away with a silver medal was really good.”
The Sharks also received team and individual accolades and honours at the tournament. They were awarded the overall Subway Team Sportsmanship Award.
Brendan Jamieson was named Most Valuable Player in the Midget B Division and was also named to the Midget B All-Stars. Daylen Laflamme and coach Terry Krastel each received fair play honours.
